I take a break, but soon I'm logging back into the app to make sure I'm still in the top ten and doing a few more exercises just to pad my stats.
I see Suze3701. She just got bounced out of the top ten. Will she log back in just before 10:00 to steal someone's place? I'm several hundred XP ahead of her, but I'm only in seventh place. Can I do a few more lessons and maybe make it up to sixth?
Five minutes left before the deadline. I think I'm safe. Suze3701 can't possibly score that many points in five minutes. Right?
I've posted a few times about Duolingo this month and how well they've gamified learning a new language. Well, last week I was in the diamond league semifinals (a thing that I'm sure means nothing to most folks). The challenge ends at 10 pm on Sunday nights. I definitely did more lessons on Duolingo than ever before, but those tournaments get a little crazy.
It's a little embarrassing how much time I spent studying spanish this week, but I can at least call it self-improvement. It's better than the amount of time I spent on a video game the week I had Covid.
It's kind of fun, too, when there's a positive thing in your life that you can get a little obsessive about. Sometimes, it's hanging clothes on the line or raking leaves in the fall or grilling the perfect dinner. For my neighbor, it's keeping his driveway clean. I think his driveway might be cleaner than my kitchen table. I almost expect him to ask folks to take their tires off before driving on it like most people request we take our shoes off before walking on the carpet.
Do you have any positive obsessions?
Oh, and I ended up in tenth place in Duolingo. I'm in the finals this week!
