- I hate getting home and realizing that I forgot something we NEED (like ketchup).
- If it's not on the list, but someone verbally asks for it, I'll probably forget it. My family jokes that I'll buy just about anything that's on the list though.
- Ideally, the list is organized in the order of the aisles at the store (from back-to-front).
- Usually, my wife adds most of the items to the list, so that's not an option.
- Sometimes, my wife will go with me to Aldi (She loves Aldi because they don't play any music. She REALLY loves Aldi because they don't have as many options. Too many choices stress her out.)
- With a list, my mind is more free to watch the people when it doesn't have to remember that thing my wife requested as I drove away (or texted to me while I was in line to check out).
- Every few weeks, I'll go to the big supermarket instead of being satisfied with Aldi's options. (Then, I need to decide which things I'll buy at the big store and if it's cold enough outside to buy refrigerated items at Aldi.)
- I actually love grocery shopping though. I turn on a podcast and wander the aisles, checking out all the crazy items (dill pickle popcorn, Fruity Pebbles-flavored oatmeal, Siracha pickles).
- I also enjoy bringing home small surprises (like vegetarian taquitos for my youngest son who gave up meat forever ago but has never had a taquito).
- I'm a sucker for clearance items. If I round the end of an aisle and see rack of items with sceaming-orange price tags, I'm always tempted to bring them home. (Sometimes they're winners: make-your-own whoopie pie kit! Sometimes they're losers: Hot Wheels Cereal?) If no one else likes them, I probably will.
- Any special treats on your grocery list today?
I NEED a list (and a pen to check things off) when I go grocery shopping.

We have a similar division of labor here, where my husband does most of the grocery shopping (and I greatly prefer the very small local grocery with fewer choices); he always carries a handwritten list. Are we showing our age here? My sons keep their lists on their phone...I need that pen stroke, to cross things off.

I was entertained by the quirks you and your wife have, during this everyday activity. The Aldis with no music, the way you will buy almost anything if it got written down… my favorite part was trying out the specials at the end of the aisles- your specific details there were wonderful and funny! makes me want to loosen up with my grocery shopping.
