This is my fifth year slicing. Every year, there are days that are easy to blog and days where the slices dry up. Some years, I have to resist the urge to repeatedly write about my dog or my running or the silly stuff my kids (my own or my students) say and do. Like I get into a rut.
This year, I haven't really felt myself repeating writing topics, but most days have been a little of a struggle. I'm not sure why, but I've felt a little stale.
I've been inspired to try some new writing invitations, but I've had to kind of force it most days.
Even when I had hit publish on a few posts that lacked inspiration, it's been worth it. Some times, I would start typing and be surprised where it went. Some times, I'd get to the end of the post and sense a bit of unexpected revelation. A few times, I would just have to settle for being able to check it off the to-do list.
It was also challenging this year because my school blocked lots of Wordpress sites. They even blocked my Wordpress site, so I had to dust off this old Weebly site. I couldn't read some folks' blogs if they were on Wordpress (but other ones were fine??). One poster said that my Weebly resisted comments on a few days. It felt a little less special when the audience seemed smaller.
But, the consistent practice, the kind and generous comments I did receive have been so important. I"ll be back next year.
Today's post is extra brief because we're leaving for Spring Break. My youngest planned a trip to Washington DC, and today is a driving day.
April is poetry month and Writer's Digest runs a poem-a-day challenge. I'll keep posting here for that.
