I'm making it to thank my father-in-law for letting us borrow his car this week. It was his mom who wrote the vague recipe.
The pie begins with a kind of cheater's crust. Flour, sugar, oil, salt, and little milk. Stir it up and then just press it into the pie dish. It's not as fancy as a real crust, but it works for this. Do we pre-bake it all? My wife and I guess, no?
Then the filling. It's eggs, salt, sugar, vanilla, and cottage cheese. Oh, and sprinkle some cinnamon on top. That's it. Stir it up and bake it. The oven should be at 400 degree for the first little bit and then turn it down to 300 until it's done.
My description is only a little less specific than the one I just followed. Maybe that's why any two versions of this pie are more like cousins than siblings. It'll need to cool for a bit before we take it over. Maybe we'll try to go over tomorrow and sneak a slice. Everyone in the family agrees that it's better the next day.
I'll let you know how it turns out. What family recipes do you have that other folks consider strange (but really should give a chance)?
