Sometimes it feels good to vent and complain and whine. I'm not looking for these slices to become a dark place, though. When I'm overwhelmed, it's easy to be negative. I hoping that writing about five good things can turn my mood around.
Well, I feel better for having written this. I almost dipped into the negativity on one item, but I think I mostly accomplished my goal. What are your good things today?
- Feedback: It's my first year as department chair. I feel like it's gone pretty well, but I'm still learning as I go. I sent out an anonymous Google Form asking my department for feedback. I was a little nervous. Sometimes, anonymous means unfiltered (in a mean way). So far, the responses have been generous, kind, and constructive. I genuinely want to improve, so it was nice to read some things I can do better.
- Sunshine and Snow: Last week it was 70 degrees, tomorrow we might get 3 inches of snow (or more). In between, it's been everything from wind and thunderstorms to sunny and cold. I like novelty, so I enjoy the different seasons. We're getting all the seasons right now. Sometimes on the same day. I'm not gonna lie, a snow day tomorrow would be cool. I don't think it'll actually happen, but who knows?
- Spring Break: Ours is the first week of April. We're going somewhere a little warmer on the ocean. Really, break would make top-five no matter what because it's time off. But, I love going new places and trying new things. I know some of y'all go to the same place every year, but I can't wait to sample some new restaurants, hike some different trails, and experience life in a fresh place.
- Deadlines: Deadlines mean things are wrapping up. I'm trying not to look too far ahead, but I am enjoying checking-off boxes on my current grad class. Who knows what the next one will be like, but every deadline I meet for this one is getting me closer to finishing it.
- I Love You: My two teenage boys attend the school where I teach. We ride together in the mornings, and they both say "I love you" when we head to our respective classrooms. What a great way to start the day!
